Today, I’m just sitting down to write this Good News message for you. No preparation, no revising — just the raw message of my heart. And today, I want to talk about ADVERSITY.
We’ve all dealt with it. We can all agree it’s not fun!
I’ve been dealing with some great adversities lately. But today, I looked to Heaven and said, “Oh thank you, good Father! Thank you for this adversity!”
That might sound strange. It felt strange — initially.
But for the first time, I see God’s purpose in allowing me to go through this. Before today, I was too focused on the pain of my adversity: hurt – discouragement – and the seemingly insurmountable mountain ahead.
But I also have done three things faithfully:
- I’ve stayed in prayer, asking God to show me His will and keep me from sin.
- I’ve trusted that God would bring goodness from it.
- I’ve resisted the devil’s temptations and have not given in to the desire to sin.
When we are facing adversity, it’s hard to keep our focus on God and to believe with all of our heart that He is in control. But when you are living in the will of God — and please don’t miss that very important point — you can TRUST and find great PEACE in the certainty that God is with you, for you, and working everything for your good!
That’s not an opinion. That’s not empty hope. That is the PROMISE of God!
For we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28 @via rldevotions
Now, sometimes we’re facing adversity because we are NOT living in God’s will — or our struggle is compounded by consequences from our own sins. Adversity brings a great temptation to sin! If you’re facing adversity and either or both of these are true, you need to:
- Acknowledge your sin, repent of it, and ask for forgiveness.
- Turn to God in prayer and ask Him for strength.
- Align all your thoughts and ways with Him, and keep your focus on Him!
In times of adversity, the devil wants our misery ~ but God wants our victory! @via rldevotions
So this Friday, I’m rejoicing in the GOOD NEWS that God has given me peace through adversity, and that for hope in the victory I know will be mine through Him!
It’s also my hope that if you’re facing adversity, you also see God’s purpose, ability, sovereignty, and His absolute love for you!
If you are struggling, I hope that repeating this prayer will help you find God’s strength and peace:
Father, I don’t see the road ahead – and right now, I’m hurting and anxious. Please deliver me from the devil’s schemes – and keep me from sinning against you. I know that Your will is to bless my life, and when I am seeking your purpose and devoting my heart to you, you will bring goodness even through this. I don’t have to see the end result this difficult road – because you see it. I only have to trust in you and keep walking alongside you. So even though I am facing this adversity, I will choose to praise you, Father – because you are preparing victory ahead for me! The enemy and all who stand against me, stand against YOU. They will find shame – but I will basque in the glory and peace of victory through you and your great love for me! Thank you, Father. In Jesus’ name ~ Amen.”
